Venice to host ‘Yeva’ screening

Italy’s Venice Film Festival to screen ‘Yeva’.

Iranian film ‘Yeva’ directed by Anahid Abad is set to be screened at the 76th Venice International Film Festival in Italy.

The film is scheduled to be featured at a special screening at the 11-day festival which is currently underway.

With the screening being sponsored by the Blue Knowledge Association in Italy, the company also plans on investing in Anahid Abad’s next production in the near future.

‘Yeva’ tells the story of a young woman who takes refuge in a remote village in Armenia after her husband’s tragic death. Being on the run and a complete stranger in the village, she is forced to live her everyday life in disguise.

Produced by Taghi Aligholizadeh, the film is a joint production between Iranian and Armenian film industries.

The film features many notable Armenian film stars including Narine Grigoryan and Shant Hovhannisyan.

Having represented Armenia at the 90th Academy Awards, ‘Yeva’ appeared in various other international film festivals, winning several awards including Best Feature Film at the Arpa International Film Festival in the US and the Audience Award at the Pomegranate Film Festival in Canada.

A festival aimed at promoting international cinema, the Venice Film Festival is one of the oldest film festivals in the world and among the "Big Three" which includes the Cannes Film Festival and the Berlin International Film Festival.

The Venice Film Festival is currently underway with the event coming to a close September 7, 2019.
